» DIY Hand Kite

So on my last post I said I was going to make some crafts. I did one of the four. The others I’m either working on or have the stuff for, but… haven’t done much for them. So. I made hand kites for Eriana! They’re great.

On Etsy they sell for ~$5-7 plus shipping. Mine aren’t made with wooden rings, but I spent about $4.30 and made seven, so I think I did okay. Especially because Eriana doesn’t have much of an attention span, so I didn’t want to do something that could end up being eaten (by a dog, from being left lying around) but cost a lot.

I bought plastic shower curtain rings, and six colors of thin ribbon. (They were out of yellow so it’s not a good representation of a rainbow.) I then cut the ribbon in strips that were approximately my wingspan wrist-to-wrist, and looped them over the ring. Then I tied the ribbons in a knot just below the ring (at first I did each color, but then I just did all six together) so the loops wouldn’t come out. Easy peasy!

Large (small?) enough to fit around Eriana’s wrists, if she so chose.

Can also be used as a cat torture device.

The whole project took about 10 minutes, and it was only that much time because Eriana was helping. You know, how toddlers help by grabbing at stuff and yelling a lot.

I made one of these for A a while back but I was surprised to find that she didn’t much care for it. Our dogs on the other hand….

Those look like fun! I bet my kids would love some, I’ll have to look into making them.
