» TWO

Oh, hey, my kid turned two. A week ago. Holy crap. I think I’ve been in denial about it, so it’s taken me awhile to process enough to blog it. But she did. She went ahead and got bigger even though I told her to stop.

At two Eriana:

-is a quintessential toddler – complete with frequent mood swings;

-still sucks at sleeping, awaking at least once per night (though not always with need of intervention to fall asleep), only napping for around 45 minutes per day, and the need to be coaxed to sleep often during the night and before naps;
-goes to Mother’s Day Out twice a week (three times starting in January) and positively thrives;
-makes funny faces for you to mimic as a super fun game;

-is not interested in potty training in the very least;
-loves babies, trucks, cars, buses, airplanes, and animals;

-thinks Dora is the greatest thing in the whole world;
-adores her pets and giggles like a loon when she sees them;
-loves books with a reckless abandon;
-thinks the park is the most fun place ever created, especially the swings;

-strings a few sentences, but mostly communicates in one to two word phrases (a LOT less pointing these days);
-runs everywhere she goes;
-dances and sings frequently, most of the time to her own tune;
-adores coloring and stickers, especially loves to color with markers, paint, and stick stickers on the furniture or her face;

-loves clothes and frequently tries to dress herself, even if she’s already dressed;
-thinks footwear is awesome and knows the difference between shoes and boots (and has opinions about which she wants to wear, and will correct someone who says the wrong thing);
-loves to go to church (also where she goes to school) to play, and knows her friends’ names;
-tries to say anything you ask her to;
-mimics things she thinks are funny, such as me yelling “GOOOOOOO” and honking (“GOOOOOO! Beep!”) in the car;
-knows most of her colors, but defaults to “BDOOOO!” (blue) when she doesn’t know;
-likes to pick her own clothes, and does a great job with matching;

-doesn’t eat much, but will eat as much cheese and as many nuts as she’s allowed;
-loves her girl cousin the very most and asks for her constantly when we do family stuff;
-loves her grandparents and asks for them a LOT;
-fake talks on the phone often, but mostly refuses to actually talk when someone wants to;
-wants to help (hep!) with EVERYTHING;

-is very, very shy when she’s first with people, even people she knows well, but warms up nicely;
-says “please” and “thank you” (peas and manka) appropriately;
-doesn’t snuggle much, but will ask to, and also offers hugs and kisses frequently;
-adores gymnastics and tries to do somersaults at home.

I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting. Basically she rocks. She’s an awesome kid. I’ve learned so much about her in the last six months or so, about her character and personality as it’s truly coming out. I’m learning how to be a better person and parent as I strive to be great for her. She’s the light and laughter in our lives, and something that draws Jim and me closer together, which I love. Our family is imperfect, but we’re altogether happy. And so thankful for our perceptive, energetic, curious, analytic,  silly, busy, smart, spirited little girl.

    Loved reading this one! Eriana is too cute and sounds like she’s a ball of energy. Wish we were closer so she can Chi could play together. :)
