» Can We Talk About My Face?

Y’all. Can we talk about my face for a minute, please? I mean, I don’t want you to tell me what’s wrong with it, and I don’t want you to tell me that I’m pretty. This is not a request for complaints or compliments about my face.

Here is my face, sans makeup.

Here are the cosmetics I use everyday (I have a darker eyeliner that I wear when I go “out.”) (Also: I typically wear L’Oreal brand, but there was a bunch of CG on clearance last time I bought makeup, and I’m not happy with it. Basically my makeup is: moisturizer, base under eyes and on blemish/red spots, brownish eyeliner and brown/black mascara. And chapstick.)

Here is my face after makeup.

I think it’s pretty obvious that I focus on my eyes. Without makeup my eyelashes are pretty invisible, and my eyes sort of disappear.

My problem here is that I HATE makeup, but those bags under my eyes have GOT to go. I’m only 30. I sort of look 45 in that picture. And every picture, apparently. What do I do about those bags, you guys? I don’t want to wear a whole face full of thick makeup, and I don’t want to spend more than 5 minutes on my face everyday, but I have to do something. Suggestions?

Ok, here is my non-going out routine, AKA 5 minutes every day kind of thing.

Moisturizer! – whatever works for your skin.

A primer if you have time or need it or like it. I used to use an expensive one, but now I use L’Oreal Studio Secrets. Drug store cheap!

I use a powder foundation because it goes on fast and easy and it’s light and you look like me and only need light coverage. I use Hello Flawless by Benefit. I use a light hand and it lasts a long time, so while it’s pricier than drug store stuff, I think it’s worth it.

I give two quick sweeps of Hervana blush, also by Benefit. It’s really a nice natural flushy pink. Again, light hand, this one box is lasting me for-ev-er.

I used to swear by They’re Real mascara by Benefit but… eh. You know, I am not really impressed anymore. Mascara is mascara to me. You like what you like.

Under your eyes! I love love love Ooh La Lift by Benefit. I dot on a couple dots OVER my make up and then pat it in. It gives a little lift. If my bags are also looking really dark, I put on a concealer (I use Erase Paste by Benefit (seeing a theme here?)) before the powder.

I like nude shadows – I have the naked palette by Urban Decay and tend to stick down to the really “naked” end of things, especially for day time.

Now, of course I can stretch this out and really make the routine take a thousand years, but if you moisturize right after the shower, pat on concealer, put on powder, swoosh on your blush and mascara, then pat on the Ooh La Lift, you can get it down to a pretty quick day time routine.

I just started using Missha M BB cream (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002B9DWBC/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00), based on a face-stuff-rec post that Sundry did a few months back. I have really thin, fair skin and my undereye circles have gotten really out of control since Eliza was born (ahhh, sleep, I miss you). It does a better job than anything else I’ve tried, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to last forever – I barely use ANY. Also covers blemishes really well.

That all said, my stand by for when my undereyes look the worst is simply wearing my glasses, so you can’t see it as much.

I look like a horrible zombie cow without undereye concealer and LOVE the concealer by Arbonne. It covers and sticks and blends like a DREAM. I used that, some powder, blush, mascara and lipstick and call it a day.

Oh! I have been using the Garnier BB cream and that’s nice.

I love “This is not a request for complaints or compliments about my face”!

I combat undereye circles/bags two ways:

    1. Glasses

    2. Remembering my brother saying back in his twenties that he liked so much better the look of undereye bags/circles rather than “big white circles.” He wasn’t talking about me, but it sure changed the way I did my make-up from then on, since I’d been in the undereye concealer camp until then. I do sometimes use a little still, for fancy. I just get any old whitish concealer stick and put a little bit on.

I got a sample of this in my birchbox and haven’t found any other concealer I love more. http://www.birchbox.com/shop/makeup/miracle-skin-transformer-treat-conceal
It’s got silicone in it so it goes on smooth, and the coverage is very nice. Despite not coming in a lot of shades, I found the color very natural and blendable. And it even covers some of my darker acne scars for most of the day.

I also second TJ’s suggestion of a powder foundation. I use Maybelline Purestay Powder foundation. And on some days the pigment is good enough to forgo concealer under the eyes.

So my weekend, not going to work makeup routine lately has been this and it definitely doesn’t take 5 minutes:
    Moisturize with Garnier BB cream.
    Powder foundation.
A couple swipes of either Nars Orgasm blush or Benefit Bella Bamba.
A neutral eye shadow (something from the Naked palette)
    And finish with some mascara.

I saw online (pinterest, I think) that someone used preparation H on their circles under their eyes. I haven’t tried it but might be worth looking into! I have no makeup advice…I hate makeup!!!

I think you ned to use blush! It makes your face look more alive & fresh, which may distract you from your under eyes! I use Touce e’clait by YSL. I order it online. Kinda pricey but it’s my one make up indulgence. Amazing under the eyes!

Your eyes do look good. I think a little a blush would be good and I think perhaps a little eyebrow pencil might lift your eyes, so take the focus of under eyes. Of course, as with all these sorts of the things, how you think you look is very different to how everyone else sees you. I didn’t see your pics and think – jeez check out those bags ;)

I am a makeup idiot, but listen, girl, YOU DO NOT LOOK 45. That said, what I do is put concealer between my eyebrow and the top of my lid and somehow it makes my eyes look more awake. I don’t know why, and I’ve never heard it recommended anywhere, so this is probably just a fluke, but try it and see.

I also got the Miracle Skin Transformer Treat & Conceal from Birchbox (in January or February, I think) and looooove it. Best concealer I’ve ever used.

I also love any kind of BB cream. It makes my face glow. I really like the Dr. Jart’s+ from Birchbox, but have tried the Garnier as well and it was almost as good.

Do you wear sunscreen every day? I’ve always used the Neutrogena Dry Touch stuff (I think everyone uses it. My dermatologist recommended it.), but got a sample of from Sephora and it’s so much better. Also, way more expensive. It’s very liquidy instead of creamy, so it soaks in but doesn’t leave residue. I haven’t decided what to do when it runs out.

Really, my makeup has really stepped it up a notch in look (and actually down in quantity of products) since I’ve been using more expensive stuff (via Birchbox and all sorts of subscription services Laura is getting me hooked on. Not really advice, I know.

I was also going to suggest a BB cream. It’s not heavy like a liquid foundation would be, it’s supposed to replace like 5 products in your routine (moisturizer, primer, foundation, etc) so it might be right up your alley. There is also a concealer by maybelline – the instant age rewind blah blah blah – that everyone on YouTube raves about.

First, even though I’m not supposed to say this, you look lovely WITHOUT makeup! You have a great face! Second, I like this stuff called Revlon Photoready under eye concealer. It works great, is cheap, easy and fast. Best of luck pretty lady!

Oooh, I agree with whoever suggested eyebrow pencil! Hadn’t realized that’s what you needed until they said it!

First, the Hello Flawless by Benefit. It’s such a light power it doesn’t have the “Ugh ten pounds of make up on my face” thing going on. Second, skip the eyebrow pencil and do a powder. Get thee to a Benefit bar and have them teach you eyebrows. It completely changed the way I do my face. Last- I do the Swistle under eye bag thing and put on glasses. It’s pretty convenient that I can’t see a darn thing without them.
