Well, summer has come to Oklahoma. Unfortunately it’s been here for awhile. Unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about the heat that we hate. Unfortunately it’s only June and the temperatures are getting into the 90s and into the “feels like” into the 100s. FORTUNATELY (you didn’t think I’d find anything, did you?), we have some fun things planned for the summer. (By “we” I mean “me”, since Eriana doesn’t make plans and Jim is agreeable to most of my whims.)
-My friend V sent me a list of all of the parks in our town and I’m going to attempt to take Eriana to all of them. There are 59. So far we’ve been to four. (Look, I JUST heard about this list and this sort of challenge thing on Sunday and it’s Monday.) Eriana will only want to swing, but she can swing in 59 places!
-I would LOVE to get a zoo pass so we can take some mornings and go to the zoo. It will be too hot in the afternoons, and I will have two days to fill with fun each week.
-Preschool fun playdates with our church group. We went to the zoo a couple of weeks ago, and will have a swimming playdate, and a splash pad playdate, and a couple of others.
-Library Music Fun. The library has a free preschool music class on Fridays, and Eriana LOVES music more than anything. FREE! MUSIC!
-Swimming lessons. I want Eriana to know how to hold her breath, how to swim, and to NOT be afraid of the water. There are baby/parent classes at three pools in town.
-BOOKS. Eriana loves to read, and we checked out three books at the library over the weekend, so this is a test on her ability to be kind to books (we’re working on gentility).
-A trip. I don’t know where, yet, but I’d like to take a family trip somewhere. We are going to visit some friends in Little Rock soon, but I’d like to take a trip on a plane so we can test Eriana’s travel skills.
-Local plane ride. The same aforementioned friend, V, and her husband are both pilots, and they own half a plane (I mean, they have access to the whole plane, but they only own half of it) and want to take us up. This might be a precursor to the travel plans above.
-SWIMMING. I’m anti-swimsuit, but we bought Eriana a baby pool and I am perfectly fine sitting in my backyard (where no one can see me) in a tank top and shorts and watching Eriana splash like a crazy person. Also we have friends with real pools and will spend some time there. And friends with boats. Hopefully we can do that, too.
-Yardwork. This is about my least favorite thing on our to-do list this summer, but our backyard is NOT a good place to hang out, and we have a little girl who loves to play and loves her dogs. We feel like we should do something about our yard to accommodate her ideas about playing with the dogs outside. So we want to add on to our porch or build a deck or something, and fence off part of the yard for the dogs to do their business and for us to keep them when we need to sequester them for some reason. Then we can fill in holes and build some sort of shade structures and just make it all pretty and wonderful. If we have to deal with 100+ degree weather for several months out of the year, we may as well have someplace we can spend it somewhat comfortably.
We’ll end this post with another picture from the park.
Who gave my baby permission to get this big? Seriously. She was determined to climb the stairs to this ENORMOUS slide (she got halfway up and wanted down). This growing up stuff is NOT okay with me.

Reading (and chickens)

This has nothing to do with anything you read, but the boys were VERY curious about E and I had to scroll through your site and show them a zillion photos of her. Keep back, boys! She’s a bit young!
